Help Us Tell LG&E/KU to Put Its Money Where Its Mouth Is! |
|
Friend, Would you like to have a power provider who is committed to a sustainable future for our planet? PPL is the parent company of LGE/KU, the public utilities that serve many Kentuckians. The company has given lip service and even set emissions reduction goals in line with the Paris Agreement, pledging to "do its part" to slow the effects of climate change. At the same time, they have yet to commit to milestones to reach those CO2 reduction goals, making it impossible for investors and customers to hold them accountable for meeting benchmarks that show verifiable progress. In addition, they have spent millions of dollars on lobbying to defeat initiatives that would actually move they and their customers toward the Paris green house gas emissions goals to which the parent company, PPL, says it is committed. Many of these lobbying dollars have been spent through PPL's Kentucky subsidiaries, and the rest through energy industry groups in which they are members. This when the Paris goals must be met if we are to pass a habitable planet to our children and grand children! As concerned people of faith in Kentucky, we want the company to act meaningfully on its stated intentions. We've likely already helped get one climate change related resolution to the PPL shareholder meeting next spring through our work with faith partners. But now, KIPL and its partners on this initiative are looking for an individual, nonprofit or corporation who has held at least $2000 worth of PPL shares since at least Jan 4, 2021 so we can bring another plea for accountability to PPL's management. We've completed the work on this second shareholder resolution asking for the company to stop lobbying against climate friendly legislation and need eligible shareholders to offer to bring it to the floor, or appoint us as their proxy so we can do that on their behalf. Do you know of an individual investor or group that holds PPL shares who would be willing to support our efforts? If so, please contact our executive director Elisa Owen at director@kentuckyipl.org. Thank you! All of Us at KIPL |
