Concern for Environmental Issues is Not a Sidebar Conversation

The Bahá’í Faith’s stance on sustainability and concern for environmental issues is not a sidebar conversation. It is tied to the core of Bahá’í teachings: the interconnection of science and religion, the dangers of rampant materialism, the importance of economic justice, and the recognition of the oneness of all humankind....Nature is a manifestation of God’s will in the material world. Bahá’ís believe that Nature is entrusted to us by our Maker and that we are expected to make every effort to protect it and that we will answer for it.  Read more on the Kentucky IPL Blog!

Transitions

Kentucky IPL's Executive Director, The Rev. Dawn Cooley, has given notice of her resignation. Her last day with us will be on July 9.

The Kentucky IPL Board is being creative and will be starting the search to hire Rev. Cooley's replacement in the coming weeks, with hopes that the new person will be in place before Rev. Cooley's departure. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Ecological Grief Circle Starting SOON!

Without even having a name for it, many of us suffer from ecological grief, also called climate grief. This is a specific psychological response to loss caused by environmental destruction or climate change.

Eco-grief circles are a way to address this grief.  They offer us an opportunity to accompany one another in a facilitated environment, in the midst of our suffering and sorrow.

Rev. Dawn Cooley, Executive Director of Kentucky IPL, will be co-facilitating a summer eco-grief circle with our partners at the Creation Care Alliance. This Seven-week Online experience will be offered in sessions that last about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Together we will explore grief and sorrow, anxiety and fear, guilt and shame, anger, and despair. This circle is designed to offer mutual support, healing, insight, and love but this is not a grief therapy experience. Past participants expressed profound gratitude for being among people who could talk honestly about grief, suffering, and the ecological and social challenges of our time. The leadership team includes counselors, pastors, and environmental advocates. There is limited space for this online experience. Please note: all times listed are Eastern.

Kentucky IPL is an official partners with Faith in Place/IL IPL for the 2021 Green Team Summit, a virtual gathering of environmentalists, students, faith leaders, and citizen activists coming together around our collective concern to advance environmental justice.
