| | | A word from our new VISTA member, Audrie Lamb! Hello everyone! My name is Audrie (she/her) and I will be serving as Kentucky IPL's new AmeriCorps VISTA Member for the next year. I am so excited to be joining KIPL and help expand your programming opportunities and partnerships. I am a proud KY native myself from Mayfield, KY where I lived until I moved to Louisville for college. I attended Bellarmine University where I received my B.A. in Communication with minors in political science and history. While I was attending Bellarmine, I started to become passionate about environmental justice through my coursework, internships, and traveling the world. This VISTA position provides a unique opportunity for me to use my passions of advocacy and the growth of Kentucky’s sustainability initiatives to advance KIPL’s mission. | | Legislative Update At our September Faith Leaders Advisory Network meeting, Rev. Dawn shared about a meeting she attended with staff of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. She explained “We asked about the RECLAIM Act, Abandoned Mine Land (AML) fund reauthorization, black lung benefits for miners, and financial pandemic support. In response to inquiries about RECLAIM, AML and pandemic support, the answer was that the Senator was ‘looking into it’. When pressed, even though the Senator has been involved in come of these issues for years, the staffer could give no timeline for when the Senator will make a decision. Regarding black lung benefits, the staffer shared that the Senator supports these benefits, which are required by law, but the staffer would not say how the Senator plans to fund them.” The election this year is crucial, and we need all voters on deck! Towards these ends, we invite you to pledge to be a Faith Climate Justice Voter. And to help you out, national Interfaith Power & LIght, in collaboration with Faith in Public Life, have created Democracy, Values & the 2020 Election: A Reflection Guide for Faith Communities, a multi-issue faith voter reflection guide. |

- The Healing Power of Love in Action: Creation Care in a Time of Pandemic and Partisanship. The Catholic Climate Covenant is offering 90-minute Feast of St. Francis program that enables U.S. Catholics to host in-person or virtual sessions to grow in their understanding and call to care for creation as integral to the Catholic faith through prayer, education and action. It is part of the Season of Creation being marked worldwide with hundreds of events, prayers and activities. The program includes prayers, readings, a short video, discussion questions, and suggested activities.
