Power Trip Film Discussion

Join Kentucky IPL on December 15 at 7pm ET (6pm CT) for a discussion of Jonathan Scott’s Power Trip. In this documentary, screening for free on Independent Lens until December 15, solar energy evangelist and “Property Brother” from HGTV Jonathan Scott journeys all across the U.S. to uncover why clean, renewable energy isn’t available to all. While traveling to learn both the obstacles and opportunities for achieving energy freedom, Jonathan talks with conservatives fighting for solar freedom; sits down with farmers struggling to make ends meet; engages coal workers desperate for a new, healthy means of making an income; the Navajo Nation who built a utility-scale solar plant; religious leaders who made a desperate attempt to help meet their community’s energy needs; and politicians at the forefront of the battle for energy freedom.

Note: This is discussion, not a screening. Participants should plan to watch the film on their own time prior to this event.

Help with Energy Conservation

Would your congregation or organization like to start becoming more energy efficient?  We can help! Our VISTA member, Audrie, is able to help your faith community or nonprofit find a personalized approach to reducing your energy impact.

Not only is this good for the planet, but energy conservation can be good for your bottom line, too! As we enter into the winter season, there are ample opportunities for reducing your energy bill.

Sharing Kentucky IPL

When we crafted our budget this spring, we knew the pandemic meant we wouldn't be able to rely on event income. This means that over 50% of our budget this year needs to come from donations from individuals like you.

If you are a regular donor: Thank you! Perhaps you could share what you love about Kentucky IPL with your friends, family and faith community and encourage them to support the important work we do. And if you’ve never donated before, now is the time! Every donation matters and helps us to live our mission.  Donate online or send a check to Kentucky IPL, 4934 Brownsboro Rd., Louisville, KY 40222. Thank you!

Bits & Pieces

  • In late November, Kentucky IPL partnered with St. Paul United Methodist Church and members of 100%  REAL, the Renewable Energy Alliance of Louisville, to talk about the Louisville Renewable Energy Resolution and what Louisville is doing for the sake of our climate. If you missed this event and would like to watch it (or if you loved it and want to watch it again!), we have made it available online
  • This Advent, commit to simplicity. In a season that can mistakenly be focused on gifts and consumption, explore ways to live simply as we hopefully prepare for the coming of Jesus and the restoration of the earth.  Explore the Ignatian Solidarity Network Advent Simplicity Challenge
