Dear Friends,

I apologize for this newsletter being later than anticipated. I've spent the majority of my time this week supporting the protests for racial justice here in Louisville. Many environmentalists and climate activists have been engaged in this work because we know we cannot effectively address climate change without addressing racism. Or, to put it theologically, we can’t love God’s creation without also loving our neighbor. I found this article from our neighbors at Georgia Interfaith Power & Light extremely helpful and also recommend this article from Ayana Elizabeth Johnson.

But that doesn’t mean there is nothing to share in this newsletter. Far from it! May was a busy month, so make sure to scroll down and read what is going on - and its all up on our revamped website!

I hope that this newsletter finds you and yours safe from the pandemic and finding ways to work for justice in your community.

Blessings,

The Rev. Dawn Cooley, Executive Director

New Partner Communities Program

We are excited to announce our new Partner Communities program. Beyond just a “membership” program, this program describes the covenant between Kentucky IPL and our partner communities.  With four levels of financial commitment, any congregations can become a Kentucky IPL Partner Community. Congregations who have sent in membership fees for 2020 will be contacted to determine how to roll over into this new program. We can’t wait to list you on our Partner Communities webpage!

Revamped Website!

Kentucky IPL is growing, and with growth comes change. We realized it was time to reorganize our website and make the material more accessible. Additionally, we have added a lot of new content. For instance, now you can finally look at previous newsletters or view summaries of our Clergy Advisory Network calls.  The old material is still there. If there is something you can’t find, let us know - we are adding new content every week!

VISTA Position Still Open

We are looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA Member who will assist houses of worship and other faith-based and charitable organizations that serve low-income communities interested in building solar panels on their facilities. The VISTA Member will connect funding sources, solar installers and charities. The solar energy provided will save money for the agencies, provide economic stimulus with the hope of creating jobs, and reduce air pollution that is adversely impacting these communities. Upcoming Events

Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church is hosting a online book review & discussion on “Falter” by Bill McKibben on June 9 at 7pm. An overview of the book will be provided, followed by a general discussion of the issues and “the tools and ideas that might help us keep global warming and technological mania within some limits.”

Over 7,000 people viewed The Human Element during Faith Climate Action Week earlier this year. To meet the continued requests from the IPL community, the filmmaker has generously offered the film again.

View the film at your leisure June 8 - 17. Then join IPL for a webinar with filmmaker James Balog on June 17, 8pm ET.

Click here to view a preview, sign up to view the film, AND register separately for the webinar.
